abstract = "Carbon emissions from tropical forest biomass can contribute to
global changes due to the increased concentration of greenhouse
gases (GHG) in the atmosphere, and contributing to the global
climate change. Deforestation of large forest areas in the Amazon
is the main source of GHG emissions in Brazil, but the development
of REDD projects is already considered a mechanism that
contributes to reducing emissions from deforestation in the
Amazon. This paper aims to simulate changes in forest cover and
the carbon emissions associated with unplanned deforestation on
extractive reserves areas in the northeast region of the state of
Rond{\^o}nia, Brazil. The results indicate that there may be a
reduction of approximately 44% of the forest cover on the analyzed
areas, which corresponds to the emission of 33.64 x 106 tonnes of
CO2e into the atmosphere over a 30-year period. These findings
indicate that the region has high deforestation pressure, so we
recommend directed actions on these protected areas to reduce GHG
emissions and maintain the traditional local population
                         livelihoods.",
